Creative Purpose
The art created at Space Diamond is about presence more than it is about objects. Language is communicated through flowers, trees, light, and saturated color, but the deeper meaning is to truly notice something and feel connected to it.
Flowers are a repeating subject for multiple reasons— through a technical perspective, they allow the exploration of light, structure, form, and color relationships. The meaning behind the flowers is inspired by hanami, a long-time tradition in Japan that reflects on the fleeting nature of life. They are also a reminder that many blooms can coexist together in beauty, and that each bloom remains meaningful despite the countless blooms that have come before it.
Reflective metallic surfaces are not just for decoration. They function as background atmosphere, energy from shifting light, and engage viewers to be present. Each shimmer is another reminder of the fleeting moments of life. Symbolically, the reflective surfaces mimic natural metals— metals are traditionally associated with permanence and money. Superimposing a short-lived organic subject over metal disrupts the traditional hierarchy of legacy, value, and material significance.
Space Diamond Studio invites viewers to look beyond the surface to be fully present in a moment of contemplation and connection.
