In 1893, French chemist Henri Moissan mistakenly identified crystals in Meteor Crater, Arizona (USA) as diamonds, only to later learn that he had discovered natural moissanite. Due to its extra-terrestrial origins and similarity to diamonds, moissanite was given the moniker space diamond.Space Diamond Studio embodies the qualities of moissanite in the form of art; moissanite is renowned for its high refractive index which creates intense, fiery rainbow flashes and luster. Viewers are invited to look beyond surface beauty into a complex inner world alive with the radiant energy of vibrant colors.
Space Diamond is the working studio of emerging independent artist Ivy Lorona.
Born to Philippine immigrants in the San Francisco Bay Area, she loved drawing cartoons as a child, but couldn't envision a career as an artist. After graduating high school, she joined the U.S. Navy as an air traffic controller, studied Computer Science and Mathematics at Diablo Valley College, and Data Science at U.C. Berkeley. Following the diagnoses of a handful of health conditions, Ivy reconnected with art in 2025, creating work focused on instilling emotional stability through an appreciation for the natural beauty that surrounds us.
